A detailed study of the electronic structure of ethynylpyridines and the influence of the substituent group on the local reactivity at the triple bond is presented. In particular, DFT and/or CASSCF/CASPT2 calculations have been performed on the sigma- and pi-bonded ethynylpyridines substituted by a phenyl group. In addition to the nitrogen substituent group, the ring system and position of the functional group have been shown to have a significant influence on the local reactivity. The calculations give evidence for the existence of a zwitterionic resonance form for the sigma-bonded model. For the pi-bonded model, we have identified the tautomeric transition. For all investigated structures, the C2-H bond is reactive. The local reaction energies of C2-H bond dissociation are in good agreement with the experimental data.Phaeochromocytoma and hypercortisolism due to adrenal adenomatous hyperplasia.
The cause of the adrenal hyperplasia seen in patients with phaeochromocytoma is not yet fully understood, but we suggest that the tumor itself may induce the adrenal hyperplasia. We describe a patient with an extensive phaeochromocytoma who showed histologically normal adrenal glands except for a marked adrenal hyperplasia. Four out of 12 tumors showed positive immunoreactivity for synaptophysin, but no tumor cells stained positively for tyrosine hydroxylase. There were no histological or clinical signs of adrenal hyperplasia during long-term follow-up. This report suggests that hypercortisolism may be due to hyperplasia of the adrenal cortex.Q:
